VP Trait Product Development
Nadine has over 25 years of experience in the agricultural biotechnology field and in the generation of genetically engineered crops.
Her experience spans from a primary role in the introduction of the first insect resistant genetically engineered corn in 1995 by Ciba Seeds to new herbicide resistant corn lines developed at Athenix Corp. and deregulated in 2013. Prior to joining Benson Hill Biosystems, Nadine was Director of Corn Traits at Bayer CropSciences. She was a co-founder of Athenix and its Vice President of Product Development until its acquisition by Bayer CropSciences in 2009. Nadine’s contributions to the Athenix team encompassed leading the engineering, field testing, and deregulation of transgenic plants with herbicide tolerant and insect resistant traits for commercial development. As a part of the Athenix management team, she helped raise venture financing and commercial partner funding. Prior to Athenix, Nadine spent 17 years at Syngenta (previously Ciba-Geigy and Novartis) from 1984-2001 working in the Seeds division to commercialize insect resistant corn and cotton. Her experience began as a scientist cloning insecticidal Bt genes and advanced to a senior manager leading research and commercial development of insect resistant transgenic crops. Nadine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Florida. She is an inventor on more than 65 patents.
